How to uninstall Wispr Flow on a Mac completely
The short answer
Dragging Wispr Flow to the Trash leaves its data, login item and permissions behind. To remove it fully: quit it from the menu bar, stop "Wispr Flow" and "Wispr Flow Helper" in Activity Monitor, move the app to the Trash, delete its folders in your Library, remove it from Login Items, and clear its entries under Privacy & Security. Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription, so cancel that first. If you are replacing it, Flit is a local dictation app for Mac that does the same job with no account to close.
How to remove Wispr Flow from your Mac
- Cancel your subscription first if you have one. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- Click the Wispr Flow icon in the menu bar and quit it.
- Open Activity Monitor, search for "Wispr", and quit Wispr Flow and Wispr Flow Helper if either is still listed.
- In Finder, open Applications and move Wispr Flow to the Trash.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder, type
~/Libraryand delete the Wispr Flow files listed below. - Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions and remove Wispr Flow.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, then Accessibility and Microphone, and remove Wispr Flow from each.
- Empty the Trash.
Your transcripts and saved audio on the Mac are in those Library folders, so deleting them removes your local history. Data on Wispr Flow’s servers is separate and is tied to your account.
These steps and paths are from Wispr Flow’s own removal page. The table lists every leftover file it names, so you can check each one off.
The files Wispr Flow leaves in your Library
| Folder in ~/Library | Delete | What it is |
|---|---|---|
Application Support | Wispr Flow and Flow | Settings, history and saved audio |
Application Support/Caches | Wispr Flow | Cached files |
Logs | Wispr Flow | Log files |
Preferences | com.wispr.flowapp.plist, com.electron.wispr-flow.plist, com.electron.wispr-flow.accessibility-mac-app.plist | Preferences |
Saved Application State | com.wispr.flowapp.savedState | Window state |
HTTPStorages | com.wispr.flowapp | Network storage |
Caches | com.wispr.flowapp and com.electron.wispr-flow | Cached files |
Cancel the subscription separately
Removing the app and paying for it are two different things. Wispr Flow’s cancellation page says you cancel through whoever bills you: on the web or desktop through its billing page, or through Apple or Google if you subscribed on a phone. It also says that deleting your account or signing out does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play.
After you cancel, access continues to the end of the period you paid for, then the account drops to the free plan. A refund for the unused part is not automatic; you have to ask support.
If you only want it to stop opening at login
You do not need to uninstall for that. Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions, select Wispr Flow under "Open at Login" and click the minus button. The app stays installed and opens only when you open it.
If you want a clean start, not a removal
Wispr Flow has a reset that keeps the app: Settings → System → Data → "Reset & restart". Its help page warns that local transcripts may not come back, so copy what you need first.
Replacing it? What Flit is
Flit does the job you installed Wispr Flow for, finished text in any app while you hold a key, and does all of it on your Mac.
- Nothing you say is sent to a server, and it works with Wi-Fi off.
- No account to create, and so none to delete later.
- A native Mac app. Everything it stores is in one folder,
~/Library/Application Support/Flit. - No word limit and no subscription.
- Flit is free for 7 days with every feature on, then $19 once, with no account and no subscription.
Good to know
- Flit runs on a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. There is no Windows, iPhone or Android app today; Windows is in the works.
- The voice model is a download of about 0.5 to 2.3 GB that you choose once. After that Flit needs no connection.
- Flit holds no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA certificate. Nothing you say reaches a server, so there is no server to certify. If your organization requires a certificate, Flit does not have one.
Questions people ask
Does deleting Wispr Flow cancel my subscription?
No. Cancel it through whoever bills you: Wispr Flow’s billing page for a web or desktop purchase, or your Apple or Google subscriptions for a phone purchase.
Where does Wispr Flow store its files on a Mac?
In your user Library: mainly ~/Library/Application Support/Wispr Flow, plus preference files beginning com.wispr.flowapp and com.electron.wispr-flow, logs, caches and saved state.
How do I stop Wispr Flow opening at login?
System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions, then remove Wispr Flow from "Open at Login".
