Superwhisper pricing: the free plan, Pro, and what the lifetime license costs
The short answer
Superwhisper has a free plan and one paid plan, Pro, billed three ways: $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year, or $249.99 once for a lifetime license. All three give the same features. The free plan dictates without limit using local Whisper models; Pro adds cloud models, AI modes, file transcription and more. Students, educators and non-profits get 40% off, and there is a 30-day refund on every plan. Flit, a local dictation app for Mac, is priced differently: one payment, with no plan tiers, and everything runs on the Mac.
How to pay the least for Superwhisper
- Start on the free plan. New users get 3,000 words with every Pro feature on, then the app falls back to Free and nothing is deleted.
- Check whether Free is enough. It includes unlimited dictation with local Whisper models, custom vocabulary and text replacements.
- If you qualify for the 40% discount, email Superwhisper from your academic or organization address before you buy. It is not applied afterwards.
- Buy on superwhisper.com, not inside the iPhone or Android app. Superwhisper says the App Store and Google Play prices are higher because of the stores’ fees.
- Choose how to be billed. Monthly costs more per year than Annual, and Lifetime is a single payment.
- If it does not suit you, ask for a refund within 30 days of your first purchase.
A discount is not applied to App Store purchases and cannot be combined with another.

What the free plan includes
Superwhisper’s plans page is direct about it: yes, there is a free plan. It gives you unlimited dictation with any local Whisper model, up to two modes without AI processing, custom vocabulary and text replacements. It adds that on the Free plan nothing you dictate leaves your device.
New users also get 3,000 words with all Pro features. When those run out, the app falls back to Free.
What Pro adds

Monthly, annual or lifetime
Superwhisper says every plan includes the same features and only the billing differs. So the choice is arithmetic.
Twelve monthly payments come to $101.88, against $84.99 for the annual plan. The lifetime license costs the same as about 29 months of monthly billing, or just under three years of annual billing. If you expect to use it for longer than that, Lifetime is the cheaper way; if you are not sure, the 30-day refund covers a lifetime purchase as well.
One license works on all your devices. Superwhisper states there is no device limit for Mac and Windows computers, and the same license covers the iPhone and Android apps.
Discounts
Verified students, faculty and academic institutions get 40% off list price, and so do verified non-profit and charitable organizations. It applies to Monthly, Annual and Lifetime bought on superwhisper.com.
You request it by emailing Superwhisper from your academic or organization address with proof of status, before purchase. Superwhisper says discounts are not applied retroactively, cannot be stacked, and cannot be applied to App Store purchases.
Refunds
The refund policy gives a 30-day window from the date of first purchase, for a subscription or a lifetime license, bought through superwhisper.com. Eligible refunds are issued automatically once you confirm the request by email, and you do not have to give a reason.
Two limits are stated. Renewal charges are not separately refundable, because the window runs from your first purchase. And purchases made through the App Store or Google Play have to be refunded by Apple or Google.
Where the price differs: the app stores
Superwhisper recommends buying on its website, and says the prices inside the iPhone and Android apps are higher because of the stores’ fees. It also cannot manage billing, refunds or subscriptions for store purchases. A license bought in the iPhone app can still be used on a Mac: the key is shown in the app’s settings.
How Flit is priced, for comparison
Flit is a dictation app for the Mac only, sold as one payment. It is a narrower product than Superwhisper, and the price reflects that.
- $19 once, for up to 2 of your own Macs. There is no monthly or yearly plan.
- 12 months of updates are included. Another year is $19 and optional, and the app keeps working, with everything it has, if you never renew.
- Over three years that is $19, or $19 plus two $19 renewals if you want every update.

Good to know
- Superwhisper’s free plan dictates with local Whisper models at no cost. If that is enough for you, you do not need to pay for anything, Flit included.
- Superwhisper runs on Windows, iPhone and Android as well, on as many devices as you like. Flit covers 2 Macs and nothing else.
- Superwhisper records meetings and separates speakers. Flit does not record meetings.
- Flit runs on a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. There is no Windows, iPhone or Android app today; Windows is in the works.
- The voice model is a download of about 0.5 to 2.3 GB that you choose once. After that Flit needs no connection.
- Flit holds no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA certificate. Nothing you say reaches a server, so there is no server to certify. If your organization requires a certificate, Flit does not have one.
