# Medical dictation app for Mac

Canonical page: https://flit.fyi/use-cases/medical

**Chart notes stay on your Mac.** Documentation eats the hour after clinic. Flit lets you say the note into the field you are already in, and it is transcribed and formatted on your Mac, so patient details never pass through a dictation vendor.

## What slows doctors and medical practices down

- Charting spills into the evening, and gets written from memory.
- Cloud dictation sends patient detail to one more vendor to vet.
- Medical dictation is billed per seat, every month, for every clinician.
- Drug names and abbreviations come out misspelled and need fixing by hand.

## What Flit does for doctors and medical practices

### Types into the field you are already in

Flit types into the focused field of any app, so it works in browser-based EHRs, practice software, referral templates and patient messages. There is nothing to install on the EHR side and nothing to integrate.

### Drug names and abbreviations, spelled your way

Add medications, eponyms and the abbreviations you use to your personal dictionary. They come out right the first time, and the dictionary never leaves the Mac either.

### It formats, it does not summarize

Flit fixes capitals, punctuation and spoken numbers. It does not condense your note, reorder findings, or decide what mattered. What you said is what goes in the chart.

### Works with no internet

Transcription and formatting run on your Mac, so dictation keeps working in an exam room with poor wifi, and an outage anywhere else never stops a note.

## Finished text, not a transcript

Said: "patient reports um chest tightness on exertion for 2 weeks no pain at rest plan ECG and lipid panel"

Flit wrote, in Chrome: Patient reports chest tightness on exertion for 2 weeks. No pain at rest. Plan ECG and lipid panel.

Fillers gone, sentences punctuated, abbreviations kept as spoken. Your note, cleaned up, not summarized.

## Why choose Flit over Wispr Flow

Chart notes carry protected health information. Flit processes them on your Mac, so there is no dictation vendor holding them and no agreement to sign for one.

## Check it yourself

Dictate a chart note with wifi off. It works, because nothing was ever going to be sent. That is a claim you can disprove in a minute, which is more than a compliance badge offers.

## Questions

**Does Flit work in my EHR?**

Flit types into whatever text field has focus, so it works in browser-based EHRs and any Mac app with a cursor. We have not confirmed it inside Citrix or other remote desktop sessions, so test those in the 7-day trial before relying on them.

**Is Flit HIPAA compliant?**

Compliance is a property of your practice, not of a text field, so the honest answer is what the software does. Flit makes no network request to dictate: no audio, no text and no patient information is transmitted to us or anyone else, because there is no third party in the path to receive it. Whether that satisfies your obligations is a question for your own compliance advice. We do not certify Flit against any standard.

**Can it write up a whole visit?**

No. Flit is live dictation, not an ambient scribe. You hold a key, speak, and text appears where your cursor is. It never records the visit, so there is no audio of a patient sitting on your disk.

**Can a practice buy it for several Macs?**

Yes. Team licenses are per Mac, from 5 Macs, and bought once rather than billed every month per clinician.
