# Hands-free dictation for RSI on Mac

Canonical page: https://flit.fyi/use-cases/accessibility

**Write without touching the keyboard.** If typing hurts, every tool that says “just type less” is missing the point. Flit can run without a keypress at all: arm it once and it listens for your voice, starts when you speak, and stops when you pause. The text arrives finished, so there is no cleanup pass to type either.

## What slows people with RSI down

- Typing is painful, and the workaround is more typing.
- Push-to-talk still means holding a key down.
- Cleaning up a raw transcript costs more keystrokes than it saved.
- Tools that call themselves accessible still assume you reach a keyboard.

## What Flit does for people with RSI

### No keypress at all

Arm voice activation once from the menu bar and Flit starts the moment you speak and stops when you pause. Nothing is recorded until it hears you, and arming never persists across launches.

### Or one key, held or tapped

Hold a key while you talk, or tap once to lock recording on for as long as you want. Whichever costs your hands the least.

### No cleanup pass

Fillers gone, punctuation right, times and emails written properly. The text arrives ready, which matters most when every correction costs you something.

### Everywhere you write

Any app with a cursor, including browser and Electron apps. One way of working across your whole Mac rather than app by app.

## Finished text, not a transcript

Said: "um so I wanted to uh check in about the the timeline for next week"

Flit wrote, in Notes: I wanted to check in about the timeline for next week.

Finished text, so there is no cleanup pass to type afterwards.

## Why choose Flit over Wispr Flow

If you depend on dictation, it should not depend on a server or a subscription. Flit works with no internet, and there is no monthly payment whose lapse takes your voice input away.

## Questions

**Can I use it with no keyboard at all?**

Yes. Voice activation starts and stops on your speech, so a full dictation needs no keypress. Arming and disarming is a menu bar click.

**Does it listen all the time?**

Only while armed, and arming lasts for that session only and never survives a restart. Audio is processed on your Mac and never uploaded, and locking your screen cancels any dictation in flight.

**What if it mishears me?**

Escape cancels a dictation before it inserts. Review mode can park the text for you to check first, and words you correct twice are offered to your dictionary so the same mistake stops happening.
