In short

Flit 1.7 is a free update that puts the whole app in 11 languages: English plus German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Flit follows the language of your Mac, from setup to Settings. Two things that worked only in English now work in all ten: change your mind mid-sentence and Flit keeps what you meant, and count items out loud to get a numbered list. Transcribe with Flit is now on in Finder, and double-tap locks hands-free on every Mac.

## Use Flit in your language, and how to change it

Menus, Settings, setup, the recording window and every message now come in German, French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese and Korean, besides English. There is nothing to set: Flit follows the language of your Mac, so on a Mac set to German, Flit is in German.

To use another language for Flit alone, set it in System Settings:

1. Open System Settings and choose **General**, then **Language & Region**.
2. Under **Applications**, click **+**, choose **Flit**, then the language.
3. Quit Flit from its menu and open it again.

The language of the app does not change what you can dictate. Flit hears and formats the language you speak, whatever language its buttons are in.

## Self-corrections and numbered lists in ten languages

Two things Flit did only in English now work in all ten languages. Correct yourself and Flit keeps what you meant. Count items out loud and they become a numbered list:

- **German:** "Lass uns am Montag telefonieren. Sorry, ich meinte Dienstag." becomes "Lass uns am Dienstag telefonieren."
- **French:** "Liste de courses. Premièrement des pommes, deuxièmement du lait, troisièmement des œufs." becomes a numbered list of three.
- **Japanese:** "月曜日に電話しましょう。すみません、火曜日でした。" becomes "火曜日に電話しましょう。"
- **Spanish, in an AI chat:** "¿Puedes hacer tres cosas? Primero, haz el título más grande. Segundo, añade un botón para saltar. Y tercero, quita la barra de progreso." becomes the question and three numbered steps.

A correction works on days, months, times and numbers, the things people most often say twice. A numbered list needs the **Polished** level in Settings → **Formatting**, the one Flit starts with.

## Setup examples in the language you speak

The last step of setup has four examples to read out loud: talk freely, fix a slip, make a list and ask an AI. They are now written in the language you choose for dictation, so a German speaker reads German and sees German come back.

For a language outside the ten, the examples stay in English.

## Transcribe a file from Finder, now on by default

Since 1.5 you could transcribe a recording from Finder, but macOS kept the menu item switched off until you found it in System Settings. It is on now. Right-click an audio or video file and choose **Transcribe with Flit**, at the bottom of the menu or under **Services**.

If the item is not there right after the update, log out and back in once, and macOS picks it up.

## Fixes

- Double-tap now locks hands-free on every Mac. On a Mac whose microphone is slow to start, the second tap used to stop the recording instead.
- Flit no longer deletes real words it took for fillers, such as German "um" in "um halb acht", Portuguese "um" in "um carro" and Spanish "este".
- Apple's speech engine uses your Mac's variant of a language: Brazilian Portuguese on a Mac set to Brazil, British English on a Mac set to the United Kingdom.

## Questions people ask

### Is Flit 1.7 a free update?

Yes. Every license includes twelve months of updates, and 1.7 is one of them. The trial has every language too.

### How do I get it?

Right-click the Flit icon in the menu bar and choose **Check for Updates…**. Your settings, dictionary and history carry over, and a window after the restart shows what is new, in your language.

### How do I change the language of Flit?

Flit follows the language of your Mac. To give Flit a language of its own, open System Settings → **General** → **Language & Region**, and add Flit under **Applications**.

### Does the app language change what I can dictate?

No. You can dictate in any language your voice model covers, more than 1,600 with Omnilingual, whatever language the app is in.

### My language is not one of the ten. What do I see?

Flit in English. Dictation, formatting and transcription work as before in every language your voice model covers.

### Is anything uploaded?

No. Like every Flit release, 1.7 runs on your Mac, and Flit dictates with Wi-Fi off.

## Everything in 1.7.0
